XTRACT 1st Periodic Review Meeting
The XTRACT consortium held its 1st Periodic Review Meeting on 10–11 September 2025 in Athens and Lavrion, Greece. Hosted by NTUA/AMDC, TUBAF and Acceligence, the meeting brought together all partners, the Project Officer, and the external expert appointed by HADEA to assess the project’s progress and achievements.
The first day of the meeting took place at the Electra Palace Hotel in Athens, where partners presented the overall progress of the project, with a focus on pilot sites, technologies, validation activities, and communication and dissemination efforts. The day concluded with a constructive discussion with the Project Officer and the expert, followed by a consortium dinner in the Old Town of Athens.
On the second day, participants visited the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park, a historic site of mining and metallurgical activity that today hosts research and innovation facilities. The review continued with technology demonstrations, providing the Project Officer and the expert with the opportunity to see results in practice. USAL carried out a live demonstration of the WebGIS platform, while UNP presented its platform. Acceligence conducted an on-site demonstration of UAV CERBERUS. LNEG together with UNP showcased pXRF field acquisition through a video presentation, while LNEG presented further progress on resource assessment technologies. LAMMC introduced its phytoremediation solution, showing how plants can help clean up the environment.
The Lavrion visit also highlighted XTRACT’s pilot activities on eco-friendly and nature-based solutions for mining and metallurgical waste. Demonstrations focused on phytoremediation and phytoextraction as promising approaches to remediate contaminated soils and recover valuable metals.
This review meeting was an important milestone for XTRACT, combining detailed presentations with practical on-site demonstrations, and reflecting the strong collaboration across the consortium as the project advances.
